- For a natural solution: Use white vinegar. It effectively kills most mold species and is less harmful than bleach.
- For tougher mold: Opt for a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 4 parts water) if the mold is persistent. Bleach is more aggressive and effective at removing stubborn mold stains. However, be cautious as it can discolor the silicone if not used carefully.
Step 3: Apply the Cleaning Agent
- For vinegar: Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and spray generously onto the moldy silicone. Allow it to sit for at least an hour without rinsing.
- For bleach solution: Apply the bleach solution directly to the affected areas using a sponge or cloth. Let it sit for 5 to 15 minutes. Be mindful of exposure time to avoid damage to the silicone.
Step 4: Scrub the Mold
Once the cleaning solution has soaked, take a small brush or an old toothbrush and vigorously scrub the silicone. You’ll notice the mold starting to lift away from the surface.
Step 5: Apply a Baking Soda Paste for Stubborn Stains (Optional)
If any stubborn mold stains persist, create a paste using baking soda and a small amount of water. Apply this paste over the affected areas and allow it to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing again. The baking soda acts as a mild abrasive, effectively removing tough mold without causing damage to the silicone.
Step 6: Rinse and Dry
Thoroughly rinse the area with water to remove any residue from the cleaning solution. To prevent quick mold regrowth, ensure the area is completely dry by gently drying it with a soft cloth.
