Hearty Beef Stew Recipe

Ingredients

(Serves 4–6)

  • 1.5 lbs beef stew meat , cubed
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 3 medium potatoes , diced into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 large carrots , chopped into thick slices
  • 1 onion , diced
  • 3 cloves garlic , minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil 
  • 2 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

1. Brown the Beef

  • Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Pat the beef stew meat dry with paper towels (this helps it brown better), then season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, add the beef to the pot and sear on all sides until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per batch. Remove the browned beef and set aside.
